La Grange, Ky. (WDRB) — A beloved Oldham County swimming spot will reopen after a major facelift.
Bluegrass Spring Quarry, formerly known as Falling Rock Quarry, is under new ownership. Last September, Noah Doranth and his family purchased the roughly 30-acre property last fall. It was listed for sale for $2.75 million.
The quarry gives people seven acres to swim and splash in alongside the fish and turtles in LaGrange.
"It feels pretty crazy," Doranth said Thursday. "It's hard to think we're already here."
It's been a popular spot to swim for more than a decade. Though many people know it by its old name, new leadership brings new branding.
"I've always wanted to be a park ranger growing up, so this is my own little park here that I get to have here and make beautiful for the world," Doranth said.Â
After purchasing the property, his family got to work on renovations.
"Now we get to like, see what we pulled off and it's just, it feels crazy you know," said Doranth.Â
The changes are visible, with new buildings, furniture, stairs, concessions and off-site parking. However, Doranth is most excited about the upgraded bathrooms with running water.
"Huge improvement over just, you know, your construction site Porta Potty that was here previously," he said.
Doranth hopes people feel relaxed as they're surrounded by nature, floating alongside birds and swimming with the fish.
"It's like pieces of a puzzle, and it's one beautiful picture at the end," he said.
Bluegrass Spring is open Thursdays through Mondays from 11 a.m. to 6 pm and is reserved for those age 18 and older. Alcohol and outside drinks are not allowed.
Police, firefighters, EMS, active and retired military members always get in for free. It's $39 per day for everyone else.
"We want this to be a little slice of paradise for people to find," Doranth said. "They feel like they found something real special and they found something very private."
Doranth hopes to open the quarry, located at 2101 Fendley Mill Road, as soon as weather allows. Rain and cold temperatures pushed back the grand reopening from May 21, 2026.
Bluegrass Spring will close for the season on Labor Day. You can find tickets and more information by clicking here.
