LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- After getting the phone call of a lifetime days ago, a Versailles family who won the St. Jude Dream home checked out the space on Saturday.
Beverly Hughes and her family were speechless as they walked into the 2,500 square-foot Shelbyville home that they won just two days ago. Hughes won the St. Jude Dream home after she entered the raffle and her name was drawn live on WDRB Mornings.
"Something just said to buy a ticket and I thought 'well, you know, I am going to buy five tickets," Hughes said.
Hughes was caught by surprise when she got a phone call from St. Jude's Ventara Massey on live TV immediately after the drawing.
The Shelbyville home is valued at $495,000. It has four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. The home has an open-concept design that showcases a large island kitchen, first-floor primary suite with private bath, a large walk-in closet and a soaring two-story family room.
"To come in and look at this beautiful home that is actually mine, even saying mine is hard because I can't hardly believe it," Hughes said.
Around ever turn, Hughes and her family were in awe at what was now theirs.
"I'd never been in a house like this, decorated house, beautiful big house like this, never," Hughes said.
It was an overwhelming sight to see for a family that can create memories in the furnishing home. Hughes said her faith is what led her to support St. Jude years ago. She knew her shot at winning was small, but that didn't matter to her.
"I don't really know what to say, I know God helped do this," Hughes said.
Hughes also received a message from a St. Jude parent, thanking her for her raffle purchase. Ticket sales raised $750,000. All of the money goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which covers all costs for kids and their families receiving medical treatment.
