LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WAVE) — Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month was in June but the support continues year-round.
The First Neighborhood Place hosted the Black Men’s Mental Health Conference Saturday at Western Middle School.
The event focused on breaking mental health barriers for Black men by encouraging open dialogue and connecting them with critical resources.
The event included a panel discussion and interactive workshops on addiction recovery, reentry after incarceration and career pathways.
"Suicide rates have gone up not only in Black youth but Black men, so we are trying to address all those things and create the space for people to get better and stronger," event organizer Aubrey Williams said.
The conference is the culmination of the Black MENtal Health workshop series.
