LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Bekaert, a global manufacturing company based in Belgium, will lay off 100 workers on Jan. 13 at its Shelbyville, Ky. plant before closing the facility altogether at the end of 2020, the company said in a letter to Kentucky workforce officials.

Bekaert, which makes steel wiring products, plans to keep a skeleton crew of 12 employees at the plant, 2000 Isaac Shelby Drive, through Dec. 31, 2020.

The letter does give a reason for the plant’s closure.
