LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new Black-owned pharmacy is now open in west Louisville.

Good Brothers Pharmacy is the first Black-owned pharmacy to open in the city's west end in 100 years.

City leaders celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning at the new pharmacy in the Russell neighborhood. It's located at 2306 W. Market St., just blocks away from the new Norton West Louisville Hospital at 28th Street and West Broadway, which opened in November 2024.

The shelves aren't stocked yet, but medication has been delivered, and customers can transfer their prescriptions starting next week.

The store's founders, lifelong friends DeShawn King and Isaiah Jones, were inspired to open a pharmacy in 2019 after recognizing that the city's west end is a pharmacy desert. So they wanted to help close that gap.

"Families here deserve more than having to travel miles just to get their prescription medication," co-founder Isaiah Jones said. "That's what sets Good Brothers apart. It's not just convenience. It's connection."

CVS closed its location in the Portland neighborhood in January 2024, which left the nearest options for residents in the downtown area, which is a 3-mile walk.

Good Brothers Pharmacy offers immunizations, over-the-counter medications, health screenings, and free delivery, according to its website.

The pharmacy is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. It's closed on Sundays.
