LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shake Shack and another Wawa gas station and convenience store are in the works in southern Indiana.
The Jeffersonville Drainage Board approved plans for the two businesses during a meeting Tuesday evening.
The Shake Shack would be the first location in southern Indiana and the first in the Louisville area, with the closest locations currently in Indianapolis and Lexington.
It's planned for the Jeffersonville Town Center development off Veterans Parkway, near Academy Sports and Outdoors. The plans also call for a drive-thru.
A spokesperson for the developer of the Shake Shack said during Tuesday's board meeting that much of the infrastructure is already in place.
Wawa expansion continues in southern Indiana
The Wawa is planned for the intersection of State Route 62 and Gottbrath Parkway, near the Xscape 12 Jeffersonville movie theatre. Plans call for a "fly-through," with a pickup window and eight fuel pumps.
Wawa is expanding from the east coast, where it is known for its cheap eats, hoagies, smoothies, coffee and friendly staff.
The Jeffersonville location will add to Wawa's footprint in southern Indiana, as the convenience store and gas station chain expands into the Hoosier state.
Wawa's first southern Indiana location opened in May on Veterans Parkway in Clarksville. The chain also opened in Indianapolis and Daleville.
The company also plans to open a location in Sellersburg at the intersection of State Road 60 and Appleleaf Lane.
In September 2023, the chain announced several future locations in the Kentuckiana region. It said last year it plans to open about 40 stores over the next 8-10 years.

The Drainage Board said the projects were "reviewed and found to be in full compliance" with the city's Drainage Ordinance.
There's no word yet on when the projects might get started or when the businesses might open.
