LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just as we head into the holiday season, Amazon is making changes to its free shipping policies.
As of Oct. 1, Amazon has ended its "invitee program," which allowed you to include other family members on your Amazon account. You can still buy them a gift and ship it free to them, but they can no longer do that if they live outside your home.
Instead, Amazon is encouraging them to sign up for their own Prime membership at a discounted rate of just $15 for the first year, then the standard $139 fee after that.
The confusing part is Amazon is replacing its invitee program with "Amazon Family," where you can share benefits like Prime Video and free shipping with other family members, but they must live at the same address as you.
Bottom line - Prime members can still ship free to other people, they just can't use your account for free shipping.
