LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you own a home or a car, you may have received a letter in the mail claiming that your warranty is about to expire and that you need to take action immediately.

People are claiming to receive letters like this, without even signing up for a warranty at the time of purchase.

Melrose Cross received a letter in reference to her homeowner's warranty.

"Our records indicate that you, in all capital letters, in bold ink, have not contacted us to get your home warranty up to date."

The letter warned of major repair costs if she didn't update her coverage.

It immediately sparked her interest that she never had a warranty with the company, let alone never heard of it.

You could also receive a letter like this referring to your auto warranty.

The letters are post cards all make it seem urgent that you must renew a warranty before something goes wrong.

But it's always best to check a warranty company on Better Business Bureau before you renew anything, that way you don't waste your money.
