LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Like everything else, if you have booked a hotel lately you may have noticed the higher prices.

Many people have started to turn to third party booking websites for hotels, but that may not be the answer either.

Latisha Walker found herself in this dilemma after she found a great deal on a Miami Beach hotel. It was $411 for a three-night stay on a discounted travel site.

"It was booked, it was paid, and I got a confirmation number," Walker said.

Upon arriving in Miami, she found out the hotel had canceled her reservation.

"They said it was through a third party, and they canceled it with them back in January," Walker said.

The hotel told her the pricing was an error and it was too cheap at the time because it was spring break season.

Walker ended up having to pay triple the price that she found online for the same hotel.

"$1,939.14," she said.

Hotel rates are near record highs in 2024, striking as high as over 25% since pre-pandemic times.

Travel experts are saying to protect yourself by:

  • Avoid reservations that say "rates subject to change."
  • Save a copy of the booking receipt on your phone.
  • If you prepay, that's a contract. Make sure the hotel honors it.

While third party sites can save you money, the actual hotel may not be able to fix or honor any billing problems.
