LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's been nice to see gas prices below $3 in many areas this past holiday season.
But for people who drive cars that require premium gas - they aren't seeing much benefit as their prices remain stubbornly high.
Many drivers are starting to give up trying to guess which way gas prices are heading.
At one gas station, regular gas was $3.25 a gallon, plus fuel was $3.75 a gallon, and premium was $4.25 a gallon - a whole dollar more than regular!
Now, you may be thinking people who buy premium can afford it because they drive cars like BMW's, Mercedes, and other European cars.
Surprisingly, more cars than you think recommend premium - like Chevy Equinox's.
As for the growing price spread, AAA says Shell and Chevron premium are considered "top tier" gas, with special additives to reduce carbon buildup. Those additives are what makes it expensive.
If your car only recommends premium but doesn't require it, cheaper midgrade fuel will do the trick and save you a few bucks at the pump.
