LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- For years, Verizon and AT&T were the top-rated cell carriers, but new surveys show some other brands with higher rankings and lower prices.

Before you think about making the switch, there are a few cautions to watch out for.

Both Consumer Reports and Tom's Guide rank T-Mobile the best of the major providers for 2025, based on its lower prices and extensive 5G network.

A lot of people are switching providers these days because they are having problems with dropped calls, garbled voices, or just high monthly bills. Unfortunately, switching providers with an existing phone is not quite as easy as it seems.

Phone companies don't want to make it easy to move to a competitor, giving customers the porting ability to reassign their number to another carrier is not good for business.

If you do decide to switch, make sure your phone is unlocked and check your current contract for terminating fees. Don't terminate your old service until your new service is up and running, or just consider buying a new phone all together.
