LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Duke Energy customers can expect a rate hike.
The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission approved the company's request on Jan. 29.
The request was set to allow the company to increase its revenue to around $395 million, which is about $100 million lower than originally requested.
Duke Energy officials said the rate increase was necessary to allow it to modernize the electric grid to make it more resistant to power outages.
New rates are expected to take effect in late February.
Duke Energy customers in southern Indiana protested a proposed 16 percent rate late last August, and customers had their concerns heard in front of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission.
The final impact on utility bills remains to be seen.
