LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two men were hospitalized after falling into an icy lake in southern Indiana Wednesday afternoon.
First responders were called to Elk Creek Lake in Salem, Indiana, on a report that a man fell in while ice fishing, according to Indiana Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jim Schreck.
Schreck said three other men who were also on the lake ice fishing tried to help rescue the man, but one of them fell into the lake as well.
A volunteer firefighter on scene was able to walk around the lake in rugged terrain, throw a rope to the first man that fell in, and pull him to safety. The other man that fell in was also rescued.
Schreck said both men were flown to UofL Hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
