LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A power plant in New Albany along the Ohio River was imploded on Saturday morning.

The boiler house at Duke Energy's Gallagher Station came down at 9 a.m. as part of a controlled implosion. A loud boom was heard around the area when the implosion happened. A dust cloud was visible around the plant after the implosion, but dissipated soon after.

A power plant in New Albany along the Ohio River was imploded on Saturday morning.

The tall chimneys that can be seen for miles were not part of the implosion. Those chimneys remain standing for now, but will be taken down in pieces over the next few months.

Gallagher Station powered up in the 1950s and was retired in June 2021. Duke Energy has been gradually shutting the plant down for several years.
