LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An upgraded eBay facility will bring 200 new jobs to Louisville.
A ribbon-cutting was held Wednesday morning for the upgraded Louisville Authentication Facility through eBay and TCGPlayer. The 145,000-square-foot facility was recently remodeled to support specialized sneaker and trading card operations.
Millions of items will be authenticated at the facility before being sold to individuals or small game store businesses.
When people from around the world buy their next pair of authenticated sneakers, Pokemon cards or handbags, the items may come through Louisville to be verified.
"This is an industry that I believe is growing. You're seeing more and more people that are enjoying collectibles of all sorts," Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said. "Who knows what the next category of collectibles will be, but I'm pretty confident people will be buying and selling those collectibles on eBay and they'll be authenticated right here in Louisville, Kentucky."
There are robots at the facility to help identify and price cards, but most of the authenticating is done through the human eye. The city said 180 jobs were already created, and more than 220 are expected within the next year.
