LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Wednesday marked the final day for a longtime movie theater in Louisville.
Due to the uncertain future of Mid City Mall, Baxter Avenue Theatres decided to close its doors on Dec. 31.
Local moviegoers stopped by one last time to catch a show.
"I'm going to miss it, and it's so close to me cause I just live right down the road from it it was so convenient to come here," Debra Weber said. "I'm not believing it's closing, I cant believe it."
Earlier this year, redevelopment plans for Mid City mall were released, which included plans to find a development company to buy the property.
But several businesses have already closed or moved. Ramen House Louisville moved to a location on Spring Street. The Nearly New Shop closed in September. The iconic Back Door Bar closed in May 2024, after the passing of longtime owner John Dant.
The Mid City Mall has been for sale since Nov. 2024. The site is now owned by the Bardstown Road Investment Co. and the David A. Metts Irrevocable Term Trust. It is assessed for tax purposes at $11.4 million.
