LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- New affordable housing is coming to Louisville's west end.

Richmond Apartments will be built on Market Street next to REBOUND, Inc. in the Russell neighborhood. The housing development will include 15 apartments with one- and two-bedroom options.

The complex is named after Louisville urban League's former president Ben Richmond, who was committed to bringing affordable housing to the west end.

Louisville leaders attended a groundbreaking on Monday.

"I'm so happy to see this is going up here," said Louisville Metro Council member Donna Purvis (D-5). "Let's continue to be hungry. Don't let them think we're settled and we're happy because this is just a drop in the bucket from the years of being disinvested. Let's continue to tell them we need more and more and more and never let them think we will be satisfied with what they have given us."

Developers expect construction will be finished by the end of next year. The development will be located in the 1600 block of West Market Street.
