LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The owners of a cocktail bar on Bardstown Road plan to open a new concept on East Market Street in NuLu.

According to our partners at Louisville Business First, Calvin Philley, the owner of Darling's in Louisville's Bonnycastle neighborhood, will soon operate Jane at 712 E. Market St.

A similar concept to Darling's, Philley said Jane will be a neighborhood bar.

"With Jane, we definitely wanted to go back to this model that kind of works for Darling's, which really has a nice balance of being accessible but also feeling upscale," he said. "It's not so upscale that it's a special occasion only, but it's not so accessible that it's like necessarily that 'every night regular beer and a shot kind of place' that turns into the neighborhood dive bar."

The name Jane comes from Mildred Jane Hill, the Louisville native who composed the now-famous "Happy Birthday to You" song.

Philley said some upgrades were done to the space — formerly occupied by Corridor Bar — and they're excited to get into a thriving area of town.

"We're kind of reaching back toward the the local community getting back in (NuLu)," Philley said. "I figured that those spaces were going to get snatched up pretty quick by operators that would be making a lot of money and not having to find new people to take over their leases down there. But it has kind of just worked out that one opportunity after another has come across the desk, and we were able to say 'Yes' to them."

Jane is scheduled to open by Thanksgiving.
