NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WDRB) — A new business coming to southern Indiana will create new entertainment opportunities for Hoosiers and Kentuckians.
After a multimillion-dollar project to improve the sidewalks along Main Street in downtown New Albany, work is underway to revitalize the buildings and add new concepts like the Truckyard to bring more people to the city.
"There's a lot of momentum coming down Main Street and this is kind of the last part of Main Street that needed to be revitalized," Cody Sprigler, with the Sprigler Company, said.
The Sprigler Company is developing a block of the busy city street into a yard of food trucks, outdoor seating, a rooftop bar and more.
"We think that it's going to be a unique, fun, great for the community kind of spot to come to and hang out," Sprigler said.
Sprigler said he and his family got the idea two years ago and based it off a similar idea in Florida. Along with the outdoor seating, there will be yard games and a full-service bar.
"We wanted to create a space that kind of welcomes anybody and everybody," he said.
Local business owners like Dan Hardesty, who owns Eureka Menswear, said it will be great for the entire city.
"It's going to give families an opportunity to come down and enjoy what we have down here and kind of give an environment that's inclusive to people of all ages," Hardesty said.
He's hoping that bringing a new entertainment option will put more people in his vintage shop.
"It's such a benefit to this corridor, because we're going to see more foot traffic," he said. "People are going to be more inquisitive with us being on the corner, it's just going to draw more eyes to us."
The Truckyard is expected to open this September.
"I'm really looking forward to just having a place for the people to gather and enjoy what we've built down here," Hardesty said.

Truckyard is designed to be a destination — for New Albany residents, for Louisville visitors crossing the bridge, and for anyone who believes this city is just getting started," a post on the Truckyard's Facebook post read.
It's one of several new projects in downtown New Albany. The District Artisan Market & Patio opened last summer on East 15th Street, offering local vendor shops, coffee, treats and community. To learn more about The District, click here.
The Sprigler Company is also behind a $37 million development planned near downtown called the Padgett District. The project received approval in March. Plans call for redeveloping the historic Padgett Building into 40 loft-style apartments, along with about 180 additional housing units across Bank Street, including apartments and townhome-style residences.
The developer has been working on the project for about four years. Renderings show the district could also feature retail and entertainment space, green space and an outdoor plaza connecting the residential and commercial areas.
