LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Just in time for Kentucky Derby season, a new pizza shop is opening in the St. Matthews area in early May.
Pizza Jones will offer takeout and delivery only when it opens at 126 Breckenridge Lane, next to the China 1, according to our partners at Louisville Business First.
Pizza Jones co-owner Gene Stein — the former co-owner of Pizza Guy, which closed nearly two decades ago — said Pizza Jones will use the proprietary dough and sauce recipe that he developed for Pizza Guy.
Stein said he came up with the idea for Pizza Jones after Pizza Guy closed but he initially planned to operate Pizza Jones out of another restaurant's kitchen.
After attempting to partner with another pizza restaurant, Stein decided to open his own location in St. Matthews. The restaurant will have about 18 employees.
In addition to Pizza Jones, Stein is also launching a beer brand called "Alton Strasse."
Stein wouldn't say how much he and his partners have invested in Pizza Jones but said the St. Matthews location will also serve as a ghost kitchen for five other brands he is creating, including Fleagle's Hot Dog Joint, Miss Baker's Spuds and Nubby's Wings.
