LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Adults with disabilities now have a new resource in Louisville's west end.

The Russell Engagement Center opened on Tuesday at Zion Baptist Church on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard in the Russell neighborhood. It's the first new day program to serve adults with disabilities in the west end in almost a decade.

The goal is to provide connection and creativity through art, technology, culinary lessons and more.

"It's important because we simply want to eliminate isolation and loneliness," said Jamese Hmaide, Pillar Jefferson County programming director. "So here they're able to be themselves, they're able to talk about things, learn about the world, and we're here to support them."

The center is run by Pillar, a social service agency that supports adults with physical and intellectual disabilities.
