LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Henry County Judge Executive John Brent calls it the longest rabbit hunt he's ever been involved with.
On Thursday, officials in Henry County unveiled the future home a new Rabbit Hole Distillery bourbon storage warehouse on Lake Jericho Road.Â
Some neighbors initially objected to the project because of concerns about traffic and pollution. Rabbit Hole founder Kaveh Zamanian said in June the group wasn’t large, but “out of respect for those neighbors, we decided to pull the permit.”
The issues were worked out, and now the Bourbon Trail will have a new off ramp in Henry County.
Shortly after the public meeting, Zamanian said thousands of people contacted him in support of the project asking him to reconsider.Â
“After we pulled the application, we got well over 2,000 signatures from local individuals who were either not at the event or decided to chime in later,” Zamanian said.
Brent says Rabbit Hole's presence means more tourism, more jobs and more than $100,000 in new tax revenue.
"You know Henry County is an absolutely gorgeous part of the Commonwealth," Zamanian said. "And it's on the corridor between Louisville and Cincinnati, so there's not a whole lot of foot traffic when it comes to tourism and other facilities, so we thought this is an opportunity for us to open up that corridor."
Rabbit Hole will eventually build its distillery on Lake Jericho Road, bringing with it 30 to 40 jobs the distillery that will pay more than $20 an hour on average. Rabbit Hole also plans to locate a craft brewery, tasting room and restaurant in the county.
It's one of many distilleries now planning to locate in Henry County. Angel's Envy is building a distillery on Cambellsburg Road.
