BLUE MASS

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A special Mass will be held for Louisville first responders next Sunday.

The Cathedral of the Assumption will hold a Blue Mass on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 12 p.m. presided by Rev. Shelton Fabre, the Archbishop of Louisville. The public is invited to greet first responders, learn about their careers and thank them for their service.

Representatives from local police, fire and EMS agencies will be in attendance to thank those for the work of current and former first responders and remember those who have died in the line of duty.

The Blue Mass has been held nationwide since its creation in 1934 in Washington, D.C. The Louisville event coincides with the anniversary of September 11, where hundreds of first responders lost their lives.

In reverence of the special day, drum corps and bagpipe players from all first responder agencies, honor guard, hymns and a rendition of "Taps" will be performed.
