LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Charlestown Police Department is warning residents about an increase in drunk driving arrests.

The department said it has conducted 60 operating while intoxicated investigations and arrests inside the city of Charlestown since January.

Police shared tips on how to keep yourself and others safe on the road.

  • First, plan ahead: Designate a sober driver or use a ride-sharing service.
  • Stay alert: If you suspect someone is driving while impaired, call 911.
  • Spread the word: Talk to friends and family about the dangers of impaired driving.

Charlestown police said there has been a "concerning increase" in incidents in the community, posing "a significant danger to everyone on the road, including drivers, passengers and pedestrians."

Police are reminding residents of the "severe consequences" of driving under the influence, including putting the lives of others at risk, being arrested, facing legal penalties, citations, tow bills and long-term impacts on your driving record.
