LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man is charged with murder for a DUI crash that killed the wife of a Louisville Metro Police officer.

Adam Todd Sanders, 42 was indicted Tuesday by a Jefferson County Grand Jury and later arrested at his home in Oldham County, according to the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney.

Sanders is charged with one count each of murder, wanton endangerment, criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants and speeding.

The crash happened about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 13 on Taylorsville Lake Road. It killed 40-year-old Erendida Lane, the wife of LMPD Sgt. Chris Lane. The crash also injured Lane's 14-year-old daughter.

Sanders was arraigned on Wednesday. Jefferson County Circuit Judge Annie O'Connell lowered his $100,00 full cash bond to $250,000, which would allow him to post 10%.

According to witnesses, a northbound vehicle was driving erratically and swerved into the southbound lanes where it crashed head-on into a car driven by Erendida Lane.

The Lane family has endured a lot in the past few years.

Sgt. Chris Lane was shot in the face Nov. 19, 2021, while in his police cruiser on the Watterson Expressway near Dixie Highway. Lane, who has been with LMPD since 2007, survived the shooting while construction worker Freddrick "Freddie" O'Bannon died when a suspect opened fire.

Lane was able to pursue Keyshaun Stewart and return fire. He shot Stewart and got him into custody.

Now, Lane is left to raise his daughter and son by himself.

The Louisville Metro Police Foundation continues to collect money to help the family. Donations can be submitted by clicking here or through Venmo to @LouisvilleMetro-PoliceFoundati.
