LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A kayaker from Cincinnati is on a 6,000-mile trip to raise awareness for mental health and he made his way through Louisville on Monday.

Joseph Solomon suffers from mental health conditions himself, and said raising awareness helps him recover.

This is his fourth and farthest journey to date.

He will be paddling the American Great Loop, which includes the waterways surrounding the eastern half of the United States.

He's already a week in as it'll take him through rivers, lakes and coastal waterways.

He hopes the journey will inspire resilience.

"It helps me out for sure and I can help others out by inspiring them to seek help if they need it or be out here enjoying nature," Solomon said. "Nature has a lot of healing properties to it and that's why I come out and paddle and raise awareness for mental health."
