Umbrellas, ponchos, boots, waterproof jackets and tarps will really come in handy if you plan on going to Thunder Over Louisville 2026. Let me be clear, it's certainly not going to rain the entire time, but being prepared for showers and storms will help make it more enjoyable. For many people, it's all about tradition and they will go rain or shine. There's going to be an initial wave of steady rain during the morning from 9am - 1pm for those of you going down early to claim real estate. A couple hours of "drier" time will follow until a fine line of downpours moves in along a cold front at 3pm. Temperatures max out in the upper 60's to around 70 for the start of the air show before falling into the 40's for the fireworks. Make sure you have warm layers to add on as the evening progresses.

Speaking of the air show, ceiling heights will be less than 3,000 feet until 5pm meaning a flat air show at best. After 6pm, that cloud base rises to 5,000 feet which may allow for some vertical maneuvers. At that point, scattered showers are possible on and off in nature through the fireworks. The rain won't be steady or heavy which is good. Hopefully at 9:30 we can carve out 30 minutes without a drop, but you have to be prepared either way. Aside the the chilly temperatures, a northwest breeze may make it feel a touch colder. That wind also blows smoke to the Kentucky side of the river near Butchertown. Despite the annoying nature of rain, we won't have to deal with severe weather and with so many people gathering outside, that's a win. There may be some lightning as the front gets here around 3pm, but that threat quickly goes away. Do you best to stay dry, have fun and enjoy the show!
