Cityspot Initiative

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A newly launched initiative is taking steps to transform downtown Louisville.

On Wednesday, Louisville Downtown Partnership, Mayor Craig Greenberg and members of the 2022 Bingham Fellows class unveiled the first CitySpot in downtown. The project works to transform under-utilized sidewalks, plazas and public areas into pedestrian-friendly urban spaces.

The goal is to encourage social interaction, community building and civic engagement in a reimagined outdoor space.

"Who doesn't love a little whimsy and colorful surprise while walking around, where people can meet, eat, play and catch up on emails and my favorite, re-discover the art of hanging out," said Rebecca Fleischaker, executive director of Louisville Downtown Partnership. "It takes people, you, me, all of us to enliven our streets and spaces and bring energy to an area, and we want more of that."

The new CitySpot site is located near 5th and Jefferson streets, adjacent to Metro Hall. The space includes new patio furniture, umbrellas and flowerpots on freshly painted pavement and crosswalks.
