LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Indiana Court of Appeals on Monday affirmed the maximum sentence for a woman sent to prison after running over and killing her 18-month-old granddaughter in 2023.
Lisa Tesch originally pleaded guilty to failure to remain at the scene of an accident resulting in death.
Police said security video showed Tesch running over and killing her granddaughter, Eleanor Campbell, on June 16, 2023, in the parking lot of a motel in Jeffersonville before fleeing.
Louisville Metro Police found and arrested Tesch on July 8, 2023. She was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
According to court records, Tesch pleaded guilty in 2021 to possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia charges. In 2019, she was sentenced to jail time for reckless driving and resisting law enforcement. She also pleaded guilty that year to violating home detention.
The Court of Appeals reviewed the sentence, but concluded the trial court’s sentence was supported by the evidence.
The appellate court said the sentence was supported by Tesch’s criminal history and repeated probation violations.
According to a news release, the court concluded that "Tesch failed to present compelling evidence demonstrating that the maximum sentence was inappropriate."
