LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — An LMPD traffic guard was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning while directing traffic outside a Louisville middle school.

Louisville Metro Police said officers were called around 7:05 a.m. to the intersection of Blue Lick Road and Atlas Road, in front of Knight Middle School.

Police said the on-duty traffic guard was standing in the intersection performing traffic control duties and had her stop sign raised and visible.

According to LMPD's investigation, a passenger vehicle traveling north on Blue Lick Road disregarded the traffic guard and her stop sign and struck her, knocking her to the ground.

The driver stopped after the crash. Police said the traffic guard was alert and conscious and did not need to be taken to a hospital.

LMPD said the driver was detained and charges are pending.

The department's Traffic Unit is investigating.
