JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Contractors have completed the installation of lighted handrails for straight sections of the Indiana approach ramp to the Big Four Bridge.Ā

Now lighting needs to be installed on the curved sections -- and that's more complicated than installing it on the straight sections.

According to a news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation, the contractor picked up the railings for curved sections of the ramp and stair tower from the manufacturer in Wisconsin instead of having them shipped.

"By picking up the railing directly from the manufacturer, the project team is now able to work during the time we would have been waiting on the materials to be shipped," said INDOT chief of staff Troy Woodruff. "Hummel recognizes INDOT’s desire to get this project done as quickly as possible so it is available for the citizens of Jeffersonville and Louisville to enjoy all summer."

Hummel Electric has said that installation of the curved railing is more complex than the straight sections and will take approximately 20 fair weather working days to complete.Ā

Updates are available on the INDOT Facebook page and Twitter page.
