LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a car crash on the Gene Snyder Freeway near the Bardstown Road exit.
The crash happened around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday. Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said a man was driving north on Interstate 265 when he was rear-ended by a speeding car. The car that was rear-ended swerved off the road and rolled over.
Ellis said the first car's driver, which court documents said was 61 years old, died at the scene.
The man, 21-year-old Arnold Quijada-Vega, driving the second car stayed at the scene. Ellis said officers "determined that he was impaired," and Quijada-Vega was taken into custody. He was transported to UofL Hospital with what Ellis said are non-life threatening injuries.
Quijada-Vega is charged with vehicular homicide under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence. He is expected in court on Monday.
LMPD’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
