LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 26-year-old woman was charged with murder Friday after she told police she stabbed her girlfriend to death in their apartment in Madison, Indiana.

The Madison Police Department said officers responded around 2:30 a.m. to Regatta Court in the Presidential neighborhood, just east of Clifty Drive in North Madison.

According to court documents, officers responded to the apartment on a report that a woman was "actively stabbing" her girlfriend. Several officers arrived, forcing their way into the apartment to hear screaming and crying from upstairs.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Tori Dennison came down the stairs on officers' command with a "substantial amount of blood on both of her arms, both of her hands and her clothing."

Police said Dennison was still holding a knife in her right hand. She was then put in custody by the officers.

"This is a tragic event for our community, and our hearts are with the victim’s family and loved ones," Chief Shawn Scudder said in a Facebook post Friday morning. "Thanks to the swift and coordinated work of our officers and investigators, we were able to quickly apprehend the suspect. We are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served."

Officers investigating the scene found Casey Hilt, identified by Dennison as her girlfriend of about one year, lying on her back on the bed. Police said they "did not believe lifesaving options were viable for Casey at that point." She was pronounced dead on the scene. Three other people were found in a separate bedroom, and all were escorted outside by officers.

Dennison was taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out, and while there, police said she asked an officer "did I kill her?" According to the probable cause affidavit, she told officers she "is supposed to take medication for depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia, but has not taken her medication in a long time."

Police said Dennison told them after she stabbed Hilt, she began stabbing the door of the nearby bedroom "because she intended to kill everyone else."

Dennison was transported to the Jefferson County Jail on Friday morning. She's charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder. In court Friday afternoon, Dennison entered a not guilty plea, and a judge ordered her to be held without bond. Her next trial date is scheduled for July 21.
