SEYMOUR, Ind. (WDRB) -- At least one person was injured Wednesday after an active shooter was reported at the Jackson County Public Library in Seymour.

Police said 18-year-old Emiliano Cuevas-Bravo opened fire just after noon at the Jackson County Public Library, injuring at least one person before he was taken into custody.

According to police, Cuevas-Bravo approached the entrance of the library, entered the building and fired one shot from a long gun through interior glass windows, in the direction of two employees who were working nearby. That sent shards flying, hitting an employee.

At least one person was injured after an active shooter was reported at the Jackson County Library in Seymour, Indiana, Wednesday afternoon.

”He fired at least one shot from a long gun in kind of the lobby area of the library," ISP Sgt. Stephen Wheeles said. "One of the employees was possibly struck with some glass, sustained some non-life-threatening injuries (and) fortunately was not struck with any of the shots that were fired.”

In a news release just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, Wheeles said Cuevas-Bravo proceeded to the second floor of the library and placed the gun on the floor.

That's when a person inside the library tackled the suspect and held him until police arrived and took him into custody.

Through their investigation, police were able to get more information and found Cuevas-Bravo had gone to Seymour High School Wednesday morning "to initially target a Seymour Police Department School Resource officer," Wheeles said. He eventually left and went to the library without entering the school or coming into contact with that officer.

Cuevas-Bravo was arrested preliminary charges, including two counts of attempted murder, one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and one count of intimidation.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear. Cuevas-Bravo is being held at the Jackson County Jail, awaiting an initial hearing on his charges in Jackson County Circuit Court.

The library said in a social media post all locations are closed until further notice.

The multi-agency investigation is ongoing, Wheeles said. Other agencies involved include agents with the FBI-Indianapolis Field Office.
