LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 78-year-old man killed in a Valley Station shooting was identified Wednesday by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office.

Gordon Ritchie was shot and killed at a home in the 15000 block of Dixie Highway, just south of Mill Creek Station. Louisville Metro Police officers responded around 9:15 p.m. Sunday on a trouble run. Ritchie died at the scene in what is believed to be a home invasion.

Police are searching for suspects in the shooting. Neighbors said Ritchie's Kia SUV was stolen during the incident, but police haven't confirmed anymore information.

"He was just a great guy," said Sheree Cherry, who lives nearby. "Just an old country guy that wouldn't harm a flea guy. He would not hurt anybody. He wouldn't."

Ritchie was one of the former volunteers who voiced Freddy Farm Bureau at the Kentucky State Fair, neighbors said. He was also known at Cliff Sherry Machine for sharing stories of south end life, new businesses and talking about fighting in Vietnam.

"He was always super friendly and cracked jokes with you and he would come over here and ask if we got his mail or anything every once in a while," Jay Johnson said.

The investigation into the man's death is still ongoing. LMPD's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation but has no suspects and have made no arrests.
