LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two teenagers are charged with the murder of a 13-year-old boy in Louisville's Chickasaw neighborhood last month.

In a news release Thursday, Louisville Metro Police said a 15-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy, both from Louisville, were arrested Wednesday evening for shooting and killing Daviawn Blackmon.

Blackmon was shot on South 38th Street near West Broadway around 10:30 p.m. June 26. It happened in an alley behind a youth center. He died at the scene.

"It's disturbing," said Tyisha Ramsey, who works near the shooting. "It's scary because I got a 12-year-old son."

Blackmon was shot in the head.

"It could have been my son out here playing and he could have been the person who got shot so it hits home," Ramsey said.

LMPD said Thursday morning that the two teens are facing a number of charges. The 15-year-old is charged with murder, attempted murder, robbery 1st (complicity) and tampering with physical evidence. The 16-year-old was charged with murder, robbery 1st (complicity) and possession of a handgun by a minor (1st offense).

Police can't release their names because they're underage.

"Babies! They ain't even graduated -- probably don't know how to clean the gun, but they know how to load 'em and shoot 'em," Ramsey said.

Relatives said Blackmon was being pulled toward gang life and was already involved in the juvenile justice system.

Family members said they believe he was targeted.

"Unfortunately, it does happen but us as parents just got to keep trying to use the resources around you to do better for our kids," Ramsey said.

The investigation by LMPD's Homicide Unit is ongoing.

Blackmon was one of two boys shot in separate shootings within 24 hours. His family spoke to WDRB in the days after he was killed about their belief that he was targeted.
