LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A mail carrier was robbed Tuesday in Louisville's Southside neighborhood.
According to the United States Postal Inspection Service, two suspects approached a mail carrier as they were delivering mail around 11:45 a.m. in the 200 block of Iroquois Avenue. The suspects threw the carrier to the ground, showed a gun and took the postal keys. The two took off in a dark colored vehicle.
"Very sad and very disturbing as well," Ronnell Macklin, who lives nearby, said Thursday. "I live in the neighborhood so I'm concerned with the safety of the people that live here."
The carrier was not injured, officials said. USPS officials denied to be interviewed for this story and wouldn't say if the carrier is back on his normal route or asked to be changed to a new one.
Over the last five months, a USPS spokesperson said robberies of carriers is down nationwide.
Louisville Metro Police officers and postal inspectors are investigating the situation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the 24/7 USPIS hotline at 877-876-2455.
