LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested the man they say shot and killed another man during a fight in the city's Russell neighborhood last week.
Alonzo Thomas, 31, is charged with murder.
The shooting was reported around 3:17 a.m. on July 10 at South 26th and West Chestnut streets.
According to an arrest citation, Thomas and the victim — Thaddeus Miller — got into a fight in a parking lot on West Chestnut Street because Thomas believed Miller had taken his gun from his girlfriend, who was trying to keep the gun away from Thomas.Â
Thomas was able to get the gun from a bystander after the fight. Police said the bystander had unloaded the gun. After another fight between Thomas and Miller, Thomas reloaded the gun, pointed it at Miller and fired, hitting him in the head, the arrest report states.
Police said the shooting was captured on surveillance video. Investigators were able to get Thomas' name through their investigation as a possible suspect. They then positively identified him as the alleged shooter after comparing a "known photo" of Thomas with the surveillance video of the shooting, and because he has "unique tattoos" that were visible in the video.
Thomas is being held at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections downtown. He's scheduled to appear in court for his arraignment Thursday morning.
