LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman, arrested after her newborn baby was found dead in the trunk of a car, has been released on home incarceration.Ā
The judge made the decision to release Daira Mejia-Aguilar on home incarceration while she waits for a grand jury to hear her case for abuse of a corpse.
The Jefferson County coroner's office said Louisville Metro Police's homicide unit continues to investigate the death of the newborn. Authorities believe the child died on or around July 2.Ā According to an arrest citation, that's the day Mejia-Aguilar told police she gave birth to her child.
She then wrapped the baby in a blanket and a trash bag, and put it in a closet before moving the baby to the trunk of her car.Ā
Police have said the baby appeared to be a full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition.
