LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville woman is charged with abusing the corpse of her newborn baby.
Daira T. Mejia Aguilar, 22, pled not guilty to abuse of a corpse on Monday.
According to court records, Louisville Metro Police 5th Division officers were called to an apartment on Zorn Avenue on Saturday evening on a report that "a baby was placed in a bag and hidden in a closet."Â
When officers arrived, they found a bag in the closet of the apartment "with possible blood and flies on it."
Police said Mejia Aguilar told officers that "she had moved the baby to the trunk of her car" before they arrived. Detectives then found the baby wrapped in a blanket and placed in a trash bag inside the trunk of a vehicle the woman said was hers.
After being read her rights, police said Mejia Aguilar told detectives she gave birth to the child on or about July 2.
"She stated that she then wrapped the baby in a blanket then placed it inside of a trash bag and then placed the bag in the closet of the apartment," the arrest citations says, adding that the child appeared to be "a full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition."
There have been no results of an autopsy released by the Jefferson County Coroner's office.Â
