LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The University of Kentucky student who was sentenced to 12 months in jail for assaulting another student and hurling racial slurs has been released early.

Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to 12 months last October. According to LEX18, Rosing was serving a county sentence and was never in the custody of Kentucky Department of Corrections.

Rosing received pre-sentence credit and good time credit by the jail, pushing her release to May 11.

In 2022, Rosing, who is white, was caught on video shouting racial slurs and hitting a Black student employee at a residence hall.

Rosing had petitioned a judge for early release in February, but the judge denied the request. In the order, the judge said an early release "would unduly depreciate the seriousness of the offenses and accordingly denies the Motion for Shock Probation."
