LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was sentenced to seven years in prison following a crash that left a mother with life-threatening injuries and seriously hurt her 8-year-old son.
The crash occurred on July 1, 2022, at the intersection of Shelbyville Road and North Madison Avenue in Middletown. According to police, 34-year-old Amber Washington ran a red light and slammed into another vehicle carrying the mother and child.
The mother suffered a broken jaw, three brain bleeds, 12 rib fractures, a severed spleen, and her spine was disconnected from her pelvis. The 8-year-old sustained leg injuries.
Washington was also taken to the hospital after the crash with serious injuries. Police said she appeared “very erratic” at the scene and later tested positive for methamphetamine and THC.
On Wednesday, Washington pleaded guilty to charges including assault, wanton endangerment, and driving under the influence.
