LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Georgia man is behind bars after a short police chase in southern Indiana with two children in the car.

Indiana State Police said on Saturday about 6:30 p.m., a trooper was stopped conducting traffic patrol on southbound Interstate 65 north of Sellersburg when he saw a blue Jeep Cherokee, clocking it at 115 mph in a 70 mph zone. The trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the Jeep, driven by 35-year-old Michael Anthony Tapia, of Georgia, drove away at a high rate of speed.

Tapia continued southbound on I-65, exiting at Sellersburg. ISP said Tapia ran the stop sign at the bottom of the ramp, and drove recklessly around other vehicles before taking the ramp to I-65 northbound.

Tapia then pulled to the side of the road, and was arrested.

ISP said during the traffic stop, they found two children in the car. The children were returned to their mother, who lives in central Indiana, ISP said.

Tapia is charged with reckless driving and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, which is a felony. He is being held in the Clark County Jail.
