LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Indiana man will spend four years in prison for poisoning his wife for months so he could marry her daughter.
Alfred Ruf, 71, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery posing a risk of death in Wayne County near Richmond.
The investigation started in 2022 after Ruf's wife told police she believed her was trying to poison her. She cited recent hospitalizations where she tested positive for drugs that she denied taking, including cocaine.
Ruf later confessed to police and allegedly said his wife's daughter from a previous relationship gave him the drugs and told him to put them in his wife's drink.
Ruf also reportedly admitted to having a sexual relationship with with his stepdaughter and agreed to killing his wife so the two could get married.
Ruf was sentenced to four years in prison and five years probation.
