LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A juvenile shot and killed two suspects in a home invasion in southeastern Kentucky over the weekend, according to Kentucky State Police.
In a release, KSP said Manchester Police officers were called to a home in Clay County just before 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. When officers arrived at the home, they found two men who had been shot.
Investigators determined the two men forced their way into the home with the intention of stealing firearms from a safe. During the break-in, a juvenile that lived in the home saw the men and saw them holding firearms.
KSP said the juvenile retrieved a handgun and shot both men before escaping through a bedroom window. KSP called the shooting "self-defense."
The suspects have been identified as Jeffrey M. Allen, 51, of Manchester, who died at the scene. Roger D. Smith, 44, of McKee, died at Advent Health Manchester. Autopsies for both individuals were planned Monday.
The investigation is ongoing with KSP leading the investigation at the request of the Manchester Police Department.
