LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky State Police trooper helped an injured bald eagle get the care it needed.

In June, KSP received a call about a young bald eagle in distress that could not fly near Corbin, Kentucky.

Trooper Trey Lovins located and captured the bird. He contacted the Lake Cumberland Wildlife Refuge's Liberty Nature Center and transported the bald eagle there.

The refuge cared for and rehabilitated the bald eagle. It was released back into the wild Friday at Laurel Lake near Holly Bay Beach.

The young bald eagle was named "Trooper" in honor of Lovins.
