LMPD believes man shot 15 minutes after killing was 1 of 2 murder suspects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The investigation into a murder Wednesday night ended with one suspect shot and a second suspect in custody.

At about 9 p.m., Louisville Metro Police were called to a home on Woodruff Avenue near Taylor Boulevard and I-264. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. He died at the hospital.

"I heard a bang, bang, and I thought it was a wreck," said Patricia Jones, who lives nearby.

Jones eventually learned there was a shooting and the victim was her neighbor.

LMPD Spokesman Dwight Mitchell now says a shooting nearby is related to the murder.

"The second individual appears to have non-life-threatening injuries," Mitchell said. "That person is also transported to University Hospital. I believe that happened in the 3600 block of Lentz Avenue."

Police say the man was found shot at a home on Lentz Avenue at about 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

A second suspect, 19-year-old Damion Hayes, was taken into custody and charged with murder and robbery.

Mitchell said investigators believe the suspects fled the scene of the homicide on Woodruff Avenue after robbing and murdering the victim.

Family members tell us the murder victim had two children.
