LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police said a teenage boy was shot in the back Tuesday afternoon in the Algonquin neighborhood.
The teen was in a car with his mother and his sister when they were attacked at random around 3 p.m. near the intersection of Seventh and Hill streets, police said.
A family friend told WDRB News that the teen is a duPont Manual High School student and the family was on the way to his track practice. The teen's sister suffered a graze wound as a result of the shooting, according to loved ones.
Photos from Rachel Stump, who lives near the scene, show the family's car riddled with bullet holes.
"Heartbreaking, horrifying," said Stump. "I worry about this every single day because I hear it happen all the time now literally right out our front door now."
The teen was taken to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment, according to LMPD spokeswoman Beth Ruoff, who said his injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
LMPD did not say if it has any suspects in the shooting. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday night, according to Ruoff, who said Second Division detectives are investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call LMPD's anonymous tip line at 502-574-LMPD (5673).
