LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are investigating after two men were shot and killed Tuesday morning in the Algonquin and Smoketown neighborhoods.
Matthew Sanders, spokesman for LMPD, said officers were called to the 1500 block of Bellamy Place around 12:21 a.m. on a report of a shooting in an apartment complex.
When they arrived, they 19-year-old Tayshawn Thomas, who had been shot multiple times.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Sanders. Thomas was identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office on Tuesday.
About 30 minutes later, officers responded to another call of a shooting in the 800 block of S. Jackson Street, near Meyzeek Middle School, in the Smoketown neighborhood.
They found a man, who was also in his early 20's, lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.
EMS transported him to University Hospital but died a short time after arriving, according to Sanders.
Dr. Eddie Woods, CEO of No More Red Dots, works to end gun violence and criminal reoffence by providing programs with opportunities.
"A lot of young people are making terrible choices to be in arenas where there are guns and then people with beef and those kinds of things," Woods said. "The emotional pieces comes from losing a loved one. And then you get the emotion that goes with retribution and retaliation and all of those things."
No More Red Dots works with people who are shooters and individuals impacted by gun violence.
"You could be a in situation where the emotions and hatred is so deep, that people's houses get shot up and all of that so then you run the risk of casualties and individuals that didn't have anything to do with anything," Woods said.
Police do not believe the shootings are connected.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is investigating both shootings.
