LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A man was arrested after his wife was fatally shot March 14 in the Shawnee neighborhood.
Officer Adam Sears, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded just after 4 p.m. in the 600 block of Southwestern Parkway on a reported shooting.
The victim was taken to UofL Hospital, where she later died. The suspect remained on scene, police said.
According to court documents, 57-year-old Patrick Brents was arrested and charged with assault (domestic violence).
Court documents state the victim told Brents he needed to clean up the house because they were preparing to go out of town and she wanted it clean when they returned.
A witness said his mom was getting on Brents about cleaning, and the two began arguing about family members.
Brents then allegedly went to his bedroom and grabbed a gun from a drawer.
The witness told police his mom allegedly told him not to shoot her, and he responded, "What are you going to do about it?"
Court documents state the witness heard the gun go off and saw the victim fall back after being shot in the abdomen.
According to court documents, the witness asked Brents why he shot his mom, and he responded, "She’s shot."
The witness then ran outside and told his cousin to call 911.
Court documents state Brents told a detective he pulled out the gun because he was planning to leave, but when the victim came back into the room, the gun went off.
Brents appeared in court March 16, and his bond was set at $250,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 24.
